Ending Youth Homelessness

Youth Homelessness

Youth homelessness doesn't look like a teenage holding a cardboard sign at an intersection.

The Need

In the 2023-24 school year, 273 high school students were identified as homeless in the Waco Independent School District.

Nationally, around one third of students who experience homelessness will not manage to graduate from high school. Consequently, these youth are 4.5 times more likely to experience homelessness as adults.

Youth homelessness is not only a problem in Waco, but across the nation. It's estimated that over 1.6 million youth experience homelessness each year.

Youth homelessness is defined as “individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.”

just because a teenager may have a place to stay tonight, does not mean it’s a safe place to live.
